In the year 1981-1982, I went to
Japan which was one of the very well-known beautiful and most progressive
countries. It is a leading nation in scientific research particularly in
technology, machinery and biomedical research. There were skyscrapers with neon
lights and fireworks with different colors at night. I had been visited to
resorts like Golden Temple of Nikko and The Emperor Palace, Mt. Fuji, Yamanaka
Lake, Tokyo Tower and Ikibukuro Tower where you can find the biggest aquarium
in the whole world at that time. I was a Job Trainee at the Yashio Plywood
Corporation for Specialized Plywood Industry. The most unforgettable moment of
mine was to become a popular singer somewhere in Tokyo City.
My heart was full of happiness and
excitement when I was there. But behind the smiles and laughter I showed, there
were tears of lonesome that hide. I realized that there’s no place like home.
The family I had back in the Philippines will never be replaced by any new
friends that surround me in Japan. They became the inspiration that gives me
strength as I fade each morning. Although the smile that draws in my face
slowly fades away, I keep in mind that the sacrifices I made will later pay me
a great deal.
